Sascha Grewe - Bielefeld

Lieblingsorte à la Sascha Grewe

Sascha Grewe has liking for objects that talk to him. However, the cuckoo clock is not his passion, but rather all things typographical. But their tendency for two-dimensionality needed to be disestablished first. Calmly, the learned carpenter puzzled out how to turn letters into stools, cupboards or objects before founding his company Art Can Break Your Heart. He himself became proof that there is no need for a metropolis to create new ideas. Sascha Grewe sees an advantage in the fact that time runs slower in Bielefeld. Using MDF, cork and concrete, he finally masters even the most demanding letters: the “O” with its all-round shell surface or the geometrically challenging ampersand (“&”). At the same time he studies interior design in Detmold, spends more and more time in the workshop of the university and graduates only to return as lecturer on Plastic Design. He advises his students against studying Design or Architecture for the reputation only. “If one voluntarily decides for something, one should dedicate 120 percent of their energy to it” he says. Only then you earn your proverbial bolts and nuts for your stools.

Alte Liebe rostet nicht

The shop Alte Liebe, which full name translates to 'Old love doesn't rust', is passionate about nostalgia, the sentimental yearning for times past. After the grand opening party in November, this trend-styled shop offering a mix of vintage furniture, records and fashion, located near the main station, has been operating since December. Their range is colourful, but well combined, an 80s retro dream with enough space for rummaging. The Alte Liebe does not have a personal website at the moment, but you can get an impression of the place via Instagram under #altelieberostetnicht or on their Facebook page.

BREVI MANU

The concept store BREVI MANU offers everything the letter-writer's heart desires. Out of love for quality products with a special look, the owners introduce new and beautiful products in a great regularity. In addition to exclusive writing utensils, this includes everything in the field of paper: letterpress greeting cards, posters, noteblocks, calendars, exercise books and writing pads, as well as Japanese design and jewellery objects made of brass and porcelain. Including many products of traditional international manufactures and young design labels. It is not an understatement to say Brevi Manu is a seventh heaven for paper junkies and desk fetishists. Designers and typography enthusiasts will also get their money's worth here. In addition to the shop in the centre of Bielefeld, BREVI MANU also operates a wholesale trade.

club

Cutie

For more than 3 years, Cutie has been a fixed part of the Bielefeld scene. The venue of the local 'Initiative Bielefelder Subkultur' is the location for various cultural events, including concerts, raving electro parties, readings, Wednesday bingo and weird things such as beer yoga. The club with the cute name regards itself as offering a "holistic lifestyle" and constantly develops new and unusual ideas for events. These are extensively celebrated in the discreet and minimalist styled location on the ground floor of a car park. If you would like to find out about the current programme, check out the Facebook page; the Cutie website doesn't work, and currently only offers a de-luxe cinema view into the look of the location.

Forum Bielefeld

Forum Bielefeld is, so to speak, the bedrock of the Bielefelder club scene. Founded in the middle of the 70s in a suburb, it quickly established itself as a club for legendary indie and rock concerts. Many German and international bands, who would later play the big stages, played their first gigs here, including the Einstürzenden Neubauten, Nirvana and Greenday. After the move to the Alte Bogenfabrik in Bielefeld in 1999, Forum was opened with a huge concert by THE NOTWIST. Today, forum is the place to go to for rock and electro partying, as well as various concerts and parties and a lot of programming directed at students. But there are also readings - in January, Hamburger warhorse Heinz Strunk had the honour of reading from his monumental work "Jürgen - Die gläserne MILF".

The Good Hood

Right beside the 'Alte Liebe' is The Good Hood. Creators Simon Baxter and Özgür Celik wanted to create a mixture of a restaurant and a club: "For your neighbourhood, your block, your buddy: The Good Hood". Since April of this year, they are conjuring up street food with an Asian touch: hearty food such as Asian burgers, shrimps, coconut soups, but also classic sweet food like homemade chocolate brownies and cheesecake in a glass. Of course, a decent breakfast is also on the list. On weekends, parties take place in the Good Hood, so that their, in their own words, 'excellent sound system' is also sufficiently used. The lovingly designed interior of the shop contains of self-made graffiti - fitting in nicely with the surrounding of Bielefeld West. For guests, besides the delicious food and great drinks, there are also shirts, caps and backpacks in Good Hood style. The current weekly offer in image and text can be found on Facebook at facebook.com/the.good.hood.bielefe

shop

USED.

Vintage to wear, on the other hand, you can find at USED, a well-stocked second-hand shop at Bunnemannplatz - so almost within walking distance of the station, if somewhat hidden. The shop offers a very good selection of chic and unusual vintage goods, from old Doc Martens to 80s dungarees, plus bags, run-down knitwear with glitter, jeans, old tennis polo shirts and much more that makes the hipster heart beat faster. Peculiar or punk, glamour or neon - it's all there! In addition you can get design pieces by small, local labels here. In Used, you can expect all the fashion colours of the world - just no mainstream mass.
