Rüdiger Quass von Deyen - Münster

Art for Dessert

He was Art Director with economy media like Handelsblatt and Capital, he is a partner of the design agency KD1 for almost 25 years and saw, as professor at the Münster School of Design, short of a dozen years of students graduating. Above all, Rüdiger Quass von Deyen is a story teller – by visual means. The communication designer dedicated hims elf to the cause that even the layout of a magazine should contribute to transport the dramaturgy of their content – be it a report in "abenteuer reisen" or notices of success in a magazine focusing on technology based content. No love of him is lost, however, for the story of the creative mind that needs a hodgepodge of aids for his ideas. “I am generally curios for anything that does not interest me in the first place” says Rüdiger Quass von Deyen. When teaching his students, he emphasises an instinct for the needs of the customer. Usually, citie s like Hamburg or Munich are the first choice for corporate publishing and editorial design. “Münster may not be hi ” , Rüdiger Quass von Deyen admits. “But we are able to work here without temporal fashion distracting us”. And, bam, he witnesses his graduates setting their own trends.

Lillies

Münster Lillies Opened in the middle of 2016, the restaurant is visibly and qualitatively breathing vigorously and healthily. Lillies is a restaurant with an exquisite bar. 80 lampshades are hung from the ceiling close together. This is reminiscent of discos of the 1970s and contrasting with the sober and high-quality interior. The walls of the 1 50-square-meter space were designed by architect and designer Bernhard Dessecker in muted red, and there are cognac-coloured couches, bistro tables, and walnut wooden chairs. At the bar, there is a focus on absinthe, supplemented by many cocktails, mixed perfectly to the smallest detail. The food also follow a clear concept: "reduced as much as possib le, based on three main aromatic ingredients," says owner Norbert Langer.

Café fyal

Written out, the name is fuck you art lovers. That was how the café, originally designed as an art project in 2007, was named. At that time, irony was still a trend and fyal was actually planned only as a temporary action. Today, it is an institution and the most centrally located student cafe slash bar in the city - and according to some, the best. In the summer, you can sit outside in the quiet alley between Prinzipalmarkt and Arkaden for some good people watching or visit one of the constantly changing exhibitions indoors. Red sofas, stickers here and there, posters, bits & bobs and self-service. The spirit of the early years is still there. In the cellar there is a second room for coffee and beer drinkers, regular concerts take place and sometimes there is also a combination of art and music. In addition to the sofas there is chic wooden furniture and in the summer, the chairs are placed outside on the wall – so the atmosphere, plus moderate prices and high spirits carry on throughout the entire year.
