Jan Kath - Bochum
When thinking of oriental carpets, most certainly old movies, hotel lobbies, Aladdin or the grandparent’s living room may come to mind. Maybe this will be over soon because Jan Kath frees those rugs from the dust of the Gelsenkirchen baroque. A concept that seems to be bearing fruit, proof are various design awards and show rooms all over Germany, the United States and Canada: Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Stuttgart, Munich, New York, Miami, Vancouver and – Bochum, where his handmade works are presented inside a huge factory hall. Simple industrial culture meets the warm gleam of colours and fabrics. Already Jan Kath’s grandparents dealt in oriental carpets. After travelling the world with only his backpack, with 21 years he starts working in the industry as well. He picks up work as a quality inspector and product designer in a carpet factory by one of his parents’ business partners. In 1996 he takes over a carpet manufacture – Jan Kath Design was born. That was 20 years ago. 20 years during which the double dad did not only establish his company, but also gave a new image to a product by providing innovative design and good quality to it. Oriental carpets? Wasn’t there a guy from Bochum who made them great again? Probably, no one would have guessed that, either.

S.t.a.s.p.
S.t.a.s.p. - or by Bochumers better known as the Hype Gallery – between Central Station and the Bermudadreieck, is the first port of call for the hippest sneaker, the most casual shirt and the best-dressed salesmen. If you like it fashionably exclusive and you are trend conscious, this is the place to go. The shop offers a larger selection of men's clothes, but we all know that with a large offer, also comes the agony of choice.
